Former Airbnb PM, there from 2012 to 2019, and since then author of one of the most-read product-management newsletters in the world: Lenny’s Newsletter on Substack. He is also a podcast host, course creator, and one of the central voices in the PM field.
What He Does and Why It Works
Lenny builds evidence-driven content. He draws on external data sources, interviews leading practitioners, and distills the result into practical insights. That separates him from pure opinion writers.
His edge is insider experience from Airbnb, a company where growth was a core competence. What he writes about activation, retention, and referral comes from real operating experience rather than consulting abstraction.
State of the Product Job Market (2025)
One of his recurring data analyses, built with TrueUp, tracked PM roles recovering after the 2023 slump. More than 6,000 open PM roles globally, strong AI-PM growth, and a heavy concentration of AI roles in the Bay Area.
One especially interesting signal: design roles stayed more stable than PM and engineering during the downturn, but have recently started to soften, an early hint that some design work may be more vulnerable to AI substitution.
