Peter Steinberger

Austrian developer and entrepreneur, best known as @steipete. Founder of OpenClaw (2026) and PSPDFKit, now Nutrient, one of the largest independent PDF SDK companies.

Background

Steinberger has been active in the iOS and macOS developer community for more than a decade. PSPDFKit was founded in Vienna and grew into a profitable B2B software company with customers such as Dropbox, Microsoft, and SAP, all without venture funding.

OpenClaw

In early 2026 he launched OpenClaw as a personal experiment: an AI assistant that runs on your own machine and can teach itself new capabilities. The project went viral within weeks, driven by developer testimonials on X and the sense that something genuinely new had arrived.

The striking part is that Steinberger did not build OpenClaw as his next startup. He built it as a tool for himself. Its openness and accessibility, open source, simple installation, and low setup friction, reflect a developer philosophy he has carried for years.
