Dutch indie developer and entrepreneur, best known as @levelsio on X. A self-taught programmer who has launched more than 40 projects, with several reaching millions in revenue. Lives as a digital nomad.

What Makes Him Distinctive

Levels is a canonical example of the indie hacker approach: build alone, ship immediately, no investors, no large team. His best-known projects include:

  • Nomad List - a database for remote-work destinations and one of the first major products for digital nomads
  • Remote OK - a remote job board and one of the earliest focused products in that category
  • PhotoAI - an AI product for portrait photos built on generative models
  • InteriorAI - an AI product for interior design suggestions

Philosophy

Levels popularized the idea of “12 startups in 12 months” as a public commitment to launch one new product every month. The underlying belief is simple: shipping speed beats perfection. Most founders fail because they plan too long, not because they move too quickly.

His technology choices are deliberately provocative. He prefers PHP and the simplest workable infrastructure because he wants to stay focused on user problems rather than technical elegance. David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) often cites him as proof that simple stacks can outperform more elaborate ones.

Vibe Coding and AI

Levels moved early into AI-supported solo development. With tools like Claude Code and Cursor, he significantly increased his output. His working model is: prompts as specification, AI as implementation, himself as product manager and editor.
