What is Intelligence?
Updated 2026-04-09
Book on the concept of intelligence from MIT Press. Open access is available at whatisintelligence.antikythera.org.
Recommended by Tobi Lütke:
“Brilliant book on intelligence. Highly recommended. And as always with these type of books, skip the last chapter.”
What It Covers
The book is a conceptual exploration of intelligence: frameworks, definitions, and measurement rather than applied prediction or practical AGI forecasting. One reason it is interesting is that it seems comparatively restrained about speculative AGI narratives, apart from the final chapter that Lütke explicitly recommends skipping.
Why It Matters Here
This is relevant less as an operational AI manual and more as calibration. It sits closer to foundational thinking than to product tactics. In that sense it fits the part of the wiki that tries to separate first-order concepts from hype cycles.
